Tēnā koutou katoa,
Nau mai haere mai/welcome to the Wellington Regional Hospital iSelf-Help Pain Management Programme. We are looking forward to meeting with you all over the next 12 sessions: exploring ways to help you understand your pain and strategies to help you live well despite your pain.
Researchers and clinicians from Wellington Regional Pain Service developed the iSelf-Help Pain Management Programme – in collaboration with people with lived experience of persistent pain, and inclusive of Māori cultural considerations. The iSelf-Help Pain Management Programme was shown to be cheaper and more accessible, with similar overall satisfaction scores to our in-person programme. You can read more about the research here, published in the Journal of Pain
The main kaupapa of the iSelf-help programme is to support you live well despite your ongoing pain. Chronic pain can be caused by a wide range of health conditions and many of these do not have a medical cure. Needing to manage such chronic conditions is challenging and this programme shares evidence based information and strategies that have helped others to better manage their pain– and improve their quality of life.
We are looking forward to meeting with you all over the next 12 sessions: exploring ways to help you understand your pain and add further strategies to your pain kete (pain tool kit).

Have a look at the image of a snail, gifted to us by John Kingi at Kokiri Marae, which symbolises the retreat from life due to pain being overwhelming. This programme looks at leaving the isolating shell and finding ways to move on with the shell on the back.
